Luke’s tip of the month – House Renovations
8 Aug 2014 Lisa Smith
We have been working with several customers over the past few months that are renovating houses. If you are planning an overhaul of your existing property, or have bought a ‘fixer upper’, follow our tips to ensure that things run smoothly:
1.) Get your Plumber in early! Many people make the mistake of waiting until after the initial structural stages of the renovation to think about bathrooms, boilers and radiators. It is a wise idea to call us in at the beginning stages of planning your renovation. If you are going to have a house full of contractors knocking down walls and pulling up floorboards this is an ideal time to replace or relocate pipe work, radiators and waste pipes and install under floor heating. We can liaise with your builder to schedule in our work with theirs to make the most efficient use of your time (and money!)
2.) Check your drains: It is wise to get your drains checked pre-footings stage so that any repairs or alterations can be made. In older properties the existing drainage may not be appropriate/adequate for your new requirements, We can advise you on how to go about this and the best time to do it as well as recommending trusted contractors to carry out these checks.
3.) Bathroom suites: Have a practise run! It is very hard to visualise your new bathroom suite and where the best place for everything is until it has arrived. The best thing that you can do is to get the suite early and spend some time moving all of the items around the space until you are sure what looks and feels the best. Once you are happy with where everything is, we can bring all the pipe work in at the right places and get it right first time. This is much easier (and more cost effective!) than relocating pipe work if you change your mind.
4.) Boilers and heating: In order that your heating runs effectively and efficiently, it is important to make sure that the size and number of radiators you choose is appropriate for your boiler and vice versa. We can advise you on the right combination of boiler and radiators for your particular needs.
